Mom and Son Day

We got back a few hours ago from a trip into the city to Chelsea Piers. Checked out the Science Barge. It's a greenhouse on a boat powered by wind and solar energy. It was pretty cool. They had eggplant, basil, peppers, and two kinds of tomatoes along with strawberries. What's even cooler is that they are connected to City Harvest and Whole Foods so that anything that's harvested isn't wasted. I liked that they receive french fry oil - the kind restaurants throw away - to power a back-up generator that blows hot air on the plants in case the temperature drops in the greenhouse. It was so warm, I unzipped my jacket. But, my favorite part was watching the kiddo ask all kinds of questions and understanding how everything worked. He even explained it to the tour guide! We then went to play in a park nearby. It was a great day. Skyraven
